The Staunton Earl Grey Loose Leaf

In an East India Company Earl Grey Tea Caddy

There are three unique factors that make our Staunton Earl Grey tea very distinctive.

It's exceptional taste, the authentic recipe and the 100% natural ingredients we use for flavouring work in harmony together to create a truly definitive Earl Grey tea experience. The Staunton Earl Grey is based on the authentic Chinese recipe with Neroli Oil.

Taste:

The Staunton Earl Grey has a rich but sooth taste, its zesty but sweet, floral but delicate and perfect for any afternoon. A must have for a fan of the Earl Grey flavour and a welcome change for those who don't like generic Earl Grey teas.

Natural Ingredients:

For our Staunton Earl Grey tea we only use natural ingredients and flavourings. This enhances not only the aroma, but creates an exceptional and unique taste. The base of our Earl Grey is made from specially selected Ceylon and Indian teas from tea gardens renowned for their quality. We only use the finest Neroli Oil and the purest Bergamot Oil from Italy, distinctive for its zesty flavour to create our Staunton Earl Grey. The tea is then placed in a small wooden drum with the essential oils and steeped for one month to fully enhance the flavour.

Did you know?

Whilst British prime minister Charles Grey popularized the hot beverage - it was in fact Sir George Staunton, an officer of The East India Company, that we have to thank for its creation as he is accredited with first sending a sample of the tea back to England in the 1790s. Sir George sent the tea to Joseph Banks, a food technologist of his day, however as there was no readily available Neroli oil at that time, John Banks instead used Bergamot as a substitute.

At The East India Company, with out remarkable connection with Sir George Staunton we decided to produce an authentic version of the much-loved tea. As a tribute to Sir George, in his honour, we have named our tea after him, which is why our much-loved Earl Grey tea is called The Staunton Earl Grey. We've also created a Green tea version as well as a Black tea version.

Tea masters tip:

How to make the perfect cup of loose leaf Earl Grey

To make the perfect cup of our Staunton Earl Grey, warm the tea pot before the infusion by pouring hot water inside allowing the tea pot to heat up - then after a few minutes empty the tea pot, add a rounded tea spoon loose leaf tea. It is best to use filtered water just off the boil and allow the tea to infuse for 3 to 4 minutes.

Best enjoyed pure, however, add a drizzle of honey or our Guadeloupe sugar to taste. A perfect accoutrement with our Chocolate Enrobed Lemon Peel and Seville Orange Marmalade Biscuits.
